Sunbather

She didn't get the memo that we are now officially in winter. Her beach towel still gets use daily as the primo lounging spot for the afternoon sun.

Impossibly Small: Green Shorts Edition

I realize that one year from now, these won't even fit him. His belly will be too round and the waist will be too constricting, his chubby legs will be too long for these karate shorts, and his diapered bum won't fit into these. But a lot will happen between now and then, and he will fit into these. At the beginning they'll even be too big for him, likely. But for right now, all I can do is stare at them and think how impossibly small they are. I can't see him to know how big he is, but I can stare at these and turn them over in my hands and just shake my head. Small. Tiny. Dare I say the P-word? Dear blog readers, please don't throw cyber tomatoes at me if you've come here for photography content and are instead assaulted with my expectant mommy-blogging. But I have to go there... these shorts are precious.

Red Tree in Winter

There is this tree.

I find it hauntingly beautiful, especially in the winter when it is bare. The bark is red. I don't know what kind of tree it is, but the naked branches make a perfect pear-shape, reaching up to the sky.

The morning light was irresistible. So was the tree. I didn't even wear a coat or shoes (mistake, noted).

Winter Sunshine

I know that living in the south hardly permits me room to complain about Old Man Winter, but the last week has been nothing but uncomfortable. Cold (freeze your plants to the brink of death cold) and rainy. How I long for the crisp weather we had over Thanksgiving... cool, golden, perfect. These pictures are from Thanksgiving weekend and our deck has been a soggy mess of pine needles and dead (frozen) potted plants ever since. Yuck and yuck.
